I'm trying to write a letter asking to be considered for promotion to 2nd mate. All the online templates seem to be based around meeting sales targets or bringing in clients. Has anyone written one of these recently, if so what did you mention? My last two appraisals have recommended me for promotion and I have all the required certs. just can't put it into words!

    Any help much appreciated.

Just phone them and tell them you want promoting otherwise you'll hAve to consider your options with regards to staying put no one writes asking for a promotion......do they?
    Trust me I'm a Chief.

Views expressed by me are mine and mine alone.
Yes I work for the big blue canoe company.
No I do not report things from here to them as they are quite able to come and read this stuff for themselves.

Some people defiantly do, When I was a cadet the third mate wanted a promotion so I had to help him write the letter.

Just write a polite letter mentioning your appraisals and qualifications and that you would like to be considered for promotion. I wouldn't make any suggestion of wanting to leave etc, unless you have other serious offers of employment, as your employers will know what the job market is like and woudn't take any threat of leaving seriously.

Pretty much this. Mention that you are hoping to go for your chief officer CoC in the future and want the 2/O stamps in your book from as early a stage as possible
        Go out, do stuff
