  • C1/D Visa renewing passport

    Hello

I have a C1/D Visa that doesn't expire until 2019 but my passport needs renewing before July 2014. Does anyone know what will happen to my C1/D Visa when I renew my passport? Will I lose it and have to go through the whole process at the American embassy again or will it be accepted if it is in my soon to be 'old' passport?

    Thanks

Think you either have to carry both or they just staple your old one in, hope this is the case as I have to renew mine soon!

Your visa will remain valid as long as it is not damaged.

When you send it off to get the new passport, UK IPS will only clip the corners of the passport, they don't normally cut through the visa (I stuck a post it note on front of mine saying "Please don't cut through visa on page XX" just to be sure)...

They will return your old passport to you when they send the new one. You just have to take both passports with you when you travel. If for any reason they do cut / damage the visa then yes, you will require to go and get a new one.

On a slightly related note - I recommend you get the "larger" passport - as it saves having to get a new one cause you run out of blank pages!

I have the same thing what to do is when you renew your uk passport write a cover letter just expelling you need your passport back. They will cut the corners off your old passport and send you it back so you will basically have two passports your old/new one

Just place a rubber band around the old and new passport and travel with them both. You used to be able to pay the US Embassy a visa foil transfer fee, now you either carry to passports or buy a new visa.

I'm just wondering in what capacity an enthusiast might need a C1/D visa? Forgive me if I'm being a bit rude
