Wedding insurance

Hello ladies and gentleman,

I'm getting married next year and my fiancee wants to get wedding insurance purely due to the volatile and unpredictable nature of my crew changes. i'm 95% certain i can get the time off and will walk off the ship if needs be BUT in case im sitting in a liferaft in the north sea or in a jail cell in equatorial guinea. i was wondering if anyone on here as ever got wedding insurance, the problem we face is that every company thinks im in the armed forces, and they all keep saying the same thing:

"we do cover the armed forces but we wont cover it if i cant get home on time"

This is obviously not very helpful at all, so i was wondering if anyone on here know of anyway to cover this threat or if you have been in the same situation. Thanks everyone

hmmm.how abou telling the company you HAVE to be home on XXth of MMMM next year in order to get married, most will work with it, just dont drop them on it too late :-)

I would think no one will cover you for not getting home in time, it is one of the more controllable things and you could "easily" manipulate the dates to end up making a claim. (btw not saying you would but from their point of view) IF they where to cover that then I would be as expensive as the wedding it self

Talk with you crew planner people it really ought to be ok ;-)

You need to look at one of the smaller brokers who might be able to help you, some of them advertise in Nautilus telegraph.

I think Endsleigh used to specialise in insurance for seafarers, not sure if they still do, but give them a ring and see what they say if they are still in business.

Other than that get your girlfriend to phone up your crewing manager and threaten then with violence / crying / screaming / etc. if they don't get you home on time

When you tell them you need to be home by a certain date, do it in writing! Don't just rely on the telephone call!

They have a discount for Nautilus members, and waive certain conditions on home insurance.

Thanks for the help everyone, it is appreciated. As I said, I can get the time off my company are very accommodating for things like this. But my girlfriend said it would make her 'feel better' if we had insurance so we all know what that means.......were getting insurance! lets not pretend I have a say in it, not if I don't want one of them cold evil womanly stares 0_o

I had trouble getting this for my wedding, the thing they dont like is the "missed due to operations" ie being at sea, if you do find some one let us know it'll be usefull for others in the future I'm sure
