My Maritime world
Think back to when you were at the start of your career and all the things you know now which you wish you knew then! Well, here?s your chance to share that all important
insight into your professional world with those who might be interested in following a career in the maritime - who knows, you might be helping to recruit your successor.
Seavision, the national not for profit initiative to raise awareness of the maritime amongst the rising generation through educational and career related activities, is
running a competition called My Maritime World.
Open to all working across the diversity of the maritime/marine sector and based within UK, entry is simply by submitting a short video clip describing your maritime work
environment/workplace in sufficient detail to inform and enthuse the career aspirations of 11 to 18 year olds. It needn?t be ritzy but it does need to be balanced, honest and
jargon free. The best 2 submissions will win a Nexus tablet. Judging will take place during Seafarers Awareness Week (24 to 30 June 2013), reflecting the support of the nautical charity Seafarers UK in the important task of raising awareness of the maritime amongst young people.
As always, small print, can be found at: www.seavision.org.uk/mymaritimeworld
The competition is open for entries throughout May. If you feel you are not quite at the right stage of your career to be a persuasive example to the rising generation, then pass this to those in your circle who are ? the teenage audience will probably best relate to someone in the early stages of their career. Ours is a great sector and there is an
excellent story to be told. However, by the very nature of our work, it is all too often out of sight and thus out of mind. If we are to attract the calibre and skills essential to
continued success, then we all have a part to play in ensuring that any career choice is made in knowledge of what opportunities our sector offers rather than in ignorance as is sadly all too often the case.
So don?t delay, film today to make sure your part of the story is covered!
