  • What can I actually sail as with my C/M CoC ???

I currently hold C/M unlimited coc.. appart from stating the obvious, is it possible for me to sail as Master of smaller vessels, i.e. <500gt or whatever, on this ticket??? or do i need to do something else, i.e yachtmasters..commercialy endorsed....?? I remember seeing an MGN which stated all this, but cant find it anywhere.... Any help would be greatfully received.

If you've got twelve months sea time with the Mate's CoC you can send it off to be endorsed for Master <3000gt.

I might be wrong but is it not 12months sailing as mate
      or 18 months otherwise?

No, Steve is correct. Endorsement for yacht 3000gt can be added earlier with an Oral.

While on the topic of COC's can I just ask something. I've been seeing jobs advertised outside the UK and they have asked for Marine Certificates class 1/2/3 etc and I was just wondering how this corosponds to OOW II/2 Chief Mates II/2 etc?

            Class 1 Masters
            Class 2 Mates
            Class 3 OOW

            IIRC

Yeah, the Class [number] certification system was used under STCW '78 but a few dinosaurs are still talking with the old terminology.

Essentially in STCW95 and 2010 there are only two types of CoC. Operator (OOW) and Management (Chief Mate/Master). in the UK there is a separate and additional oral exam for Master Mariner which is actually unnecessary according to STCW and many countries automatically endorse h Chief Mate COC with Master once the 12/18 months sea time is completed. Still I think the Master Oral is a good idea.
