  • MARPOL Annex VI

    Hi all,

I'm currently studying up on MARPOL and have found Annex I-V to be not too bad but I am really struggling with Annex VI.

Just wondering if anyone who has been there already could break down in layman's terms what the key points are I need to memorise from Annex VI for Chief Mate orals? The whole thing? :0

    Thanks in advance

    Hi Mantaforce

How much depth you go into is largely up to you as obviously an examiner can ask a lot.

Off the top of my head I would say:

    Applicable Vessels
Certification (IAPPC and associated documents etc)
    ECA areas and requirement.

    To boldly go.....

MARPOL annex VI is a wide range of topics but it is important to remember that along with engine emissions (IAPPC, tier III etc) ozone depleting substances such as refrigerant gasses are to be logged in a ODS record book.
other things annex vi includes are the implementation of the "air emissions report", certification, greenhouse gasses.
There is a load more topics included but I wanted to specifically mention the ozone depleting substances are included in MARPOL annex VI.
