  • Can I do an EDH course with EOOW?

As the title says I'm have my EOOW and am currently employed, however I usually get 7-8 weeks off and i get bored as ****. I've noticed that theres a lot of temp jobs going for deckhands/AB's on smaller vessels around the UK for 1-2 weeks with a decent day rate offered, which sounds perfect to me. I'm looking at putting myself through an Efficient Deckhand Course, however the pre requisites are a bit confusing, does anyone know if time spent as a 3rd engineer would qualify as relevant sea time?

You'll need one of these to qualify to sit the EDH exam:
    -Yatchmaster offshore,
-6 months as a deck rating on yachts,
    -Navigational watch rating certificate,
-Boat master (Tier one, level two),
-6 months as a deck rating on tugs, with a Navigational watch rating or steering certificate.

For more information, see MSN 1862(M).

If you're confused, it wouldn't hurt to give the MCA a call and ask!
Pointy bit is the front, blunt bit is the back... Simples!

    Will work for money/sea time.

Get the master of the ship your on to write you a testimonial saying you do some stuff on deck, he can write you a steering cert aswell I’m sure unless it’s changed since I did it,the course supplier may not accept it (the testimonial), but the EDH course is grossly outdated for the deck duties now, I know the jobs your thinking of on the Ctvs I’ve done a few trips on them my self on leaves, best of luck
