  • Maersk Engineer Interview

    Hi all,

Done a few searches and didn't get quite the answers I was looking for, sorry if this has been asked before!

So I'm coming to the end of my engineering cadetship up at City of Glasgow college, my training officer asked me to send in my CV and fill out an application form for Maersk Line. Got asked today if I could manage an interview a week today in Newcastle. Bear in mind I've sat my IAMI, waiting for my results,my NOE has been sent off, so I obviously haven't got an oral date let alone my COC.

Has anyone been in this situation, and would anyone know what to expect?

One of my lecturers is a chief with Maersk currently so I'll be harassing him tomorrow regarding what the script is, but thought I'd see if anyone has gone and done it so far? Thought I'd get some first hand experience rather than "well they may" etc.

I know there are IQ type and personality tests to be done, but I was under the impression these happen before the interview itself?

    Any help would be appreciated!

    Cheers,

    Rob

Thats pretty mch it, the PI/IQ tests can be done on the day or before hand, other than that it's like any other interview.

Personnel will talk to you and I would expect a Superintendent to have a chat too...think mini-Orals, big push for bodies currently.
    Trust me I'm a Chief.

Views expressed by me are mine and mine alone.
Yes I work for the big blue canoe company.
No I do not report things from here to them as they are quite able to come and read this stuff for themselves.

      Cheers,

Lecturer showed me an article today about how Maersk rely so heavily on, and believe so strongly in, these tests. They are developed by their own staff, done in house are only done on paper and apparently are quite the sought after secret.

Definitely didn't think people relied on them so much!

I think everyone is hurting for people at the minute...
I love deadlines. I like the whooshing sound they make as they fly by.....

Too many ships, not enough bodies to crew em. It's like a curve, goes up and down and what not....

Any particular reason they'll be after British crew in particular at the moment? Or is it a general recruitment from allsorts of places?

Borg are just recruiting all nationalities, they have finally noticed that there isn't a big talent pool in any one country they can tap for cheap.........it just isn't or hasn't happened how the owners thought it would, as was said years ago they will and have run out of cheap labour sources....by cheap I mean really really cheap, oh and that cheap isn't always cost effective (and vice versa expensive isn't always best)
