I believe that, to work on ships you need sea time so need to go through a cadetship. Because you have a degree in electrical engineering, the company would probably fast track you, so that you are given around 8-10 months at sea. I'm not 100% sure as I have not experienced a cadetship yet, and I am basing my knowledge on similar posts and things that I have read. The best thing to do is go to a college open day ( fleetwood and South Shields has open days In a few weeks) as you would be given a chance to speak to represtatives of sponcering companies.

Also so to be eligible to ply for a cadetship you need to have been a resident here for I think 3 years.

visit the careers at sea website.

      hope this kind of helped.

Ps. Nobody probably answered you since it was only 7 when you asked this. Which means that many in the UK will be sleeping.

First of all, as pointed out, you posted this at 7am on a Sunday morning. Many people will not be awake. Secondly, it is quite obvious that you are not in the UK. I would guess you are in Asia somewhere. This means that when most people looked at your post they realised they could not help and so did not comment. This is much better than people posting rubbish because they are merely guessing.

As said, you fall outside of the remit of doing a funded cadetship in the UK, without that you are unlikely to find anyone to give you seatime in the UK. Therefore you need to find someone who can help you with more knowledge of your home market. There is someone here that may be able to point you in the right direction. Hopefully he will be able to comment.

Good luck in your search for a career.

        Ian.

Right, without knowing where you are based, I would suggest that you go and speak to somebody within your local maritime college and find out what you need to do from them. When it comes to arranging seatime, at the risk of sounding like a broken record here, go to your local manning agents and apply with them. Try and stick with the larger firms, if any ask for payment for finding a berth, walk away.

Why you up so early!? Weirdo....
I love deadlines. I like the whooshing sound they make as they fly by.....
