  • Hello forum people...

Hello forum people, I am a newcomer to these parts! I'm looking to apply to be a deck officer cadet at the tender age of 28. I've been at sea a few times on cruise ships and some smaller boats, plus a kayak and loved the experiences, especially in the middle of storms.

My dad was offshore when I was much younger but has recently rejoined the crew of various rigs and my brother in law maintains wind farms, my granddad also sailed with the RN and all are full of stories about how much they love their jobs. While I recognise it's a hell of a lot of hard work, I am not one to run from stressful or difficult situations. I've already got a degree but I hope this won't go against me when applying for sponsorship!?

Anyway, I've been doing my research and speaking to some friends who are at sea on cruise ships and the like and I'm looking forward to being shown more of the industry shortly with their guidance. That's enough about me now I think, hopefully I'll get to know a few of you over the coming months and good luck to all those others hoping to apply.

    Hello and welcome...
I love deadlines. I like the whooshing sound they make as they fly by.....

All posts here represent my own opinion and not that of my employer.

Don't worry about the fact you have a degree counting against you, about half of my class have at one! Good luck with the application process.
