That was a real SOS sent by the passenger ship Prinsendam/PJTA in 1980 in the Gulf of Alaska. She had an engine room fire which went out of control. She also had a satellite comms system which failed. The rescue was worked in CW on 500KHz by the R/O who disobeyed the Master and sent out an SOS. The Prinsendam later capsized and sank. No lives were lost.
