Hi Jonathon and welcome
Before you get a job on a ship you'll need to get a company to sponsor you through your cadetship (assuming you want to be an officer?) There's oodles of lovely information on this site, (ProTip - use the search function in the top TH corner before you start asking too many questions, we're a pretty friendly bunch but getting the same questions time and time again leads to some eye rolling from the more jaded of us....) Have a good browse and also go have a look at the Careers At Sea website. Meanwhile do join in the pointless banter as well

If you're from America then have a look at the "Merchant Marine" or US Coast Guard.
If you're from another country then you'll have to have a look and see if your country has a Merchant Navy training scheme or academy. If not then a military route may be the way forward. Afraid not much else I can help you with. Good luck.
If you have already completed the training and you're looking for sea time; look at shipping agencies within your country or some of the larger multinationals have schemes to provide sea time for students who are already enrolled on an academic training route in their own country.?Twenty years from now you will be more disappointed by the things you didn?t do than by the ones you did do. So throw off the bowlines, sail away from the safe harbor. Catch the trade winds in your sails. Explore. Dream. Discover.?
