  • Hi there, I've finally applied!

    Hi everybody,

Thanks for taking the time to read my first post.

My name's danny, 26 years old from Liverpool.

I've recently had my application accepted for deck officer & will be arranging my ENG.1 in the next month or so.

I first thought about joining the 'merch a few years ago when work wasn't going so well, but work turned around and its actually been pretty good over the past 18 months.
Still didn't feel right though. So i thought sod it, time for a change. Now here I am looking to 'get on board'. sorry had to!

So i found this site when googling about UCAS points etc, but discovered that as I am not a school leaver this is not really applicable.

As i've mentioned, the next step for me is to get through my ENG.1. I'm not sure exactly what to expect here, although I did pass an infantry medical in 2010 for the TA.
Any hints or tips on what to expect and any advice whatsoever for an applicant of my age, would be greatly appreciated.
I've been told I will have an interview upon completion of the ENG.1, any tips on this would also be helpful, although i've never really had a problem with interviews.

One last thing, if I may... How hard is it for an applicant of my age to be successful?

    Thanks!

26 is not that old for a cadet, I've seen plenty much older than that.

Your age won't impact your success. Your attitude and work ethic will. A hard working intelligent cadet of any age will go on to be successful.

The ENG will be pretty straightforward, usual blood pressure, height weight, Pi** test for blood sugars etc, plus doing the eye sight and colour blindness checks and if you are really lucky you will have to "cough please".

Your not old and will probably be in the mid to slightly older range age group, everyones in the same boat and as said above if you act keen and keep your head down you will have a great career!

My golden rules to all cadets - Dont be late, Dont get caught, Dont be drunk, Act keen and dont fall in love!

      Cheers

      Chris

Age is no barrier, unless it has brought with it age related ill health (we'll assume not at 26!)

Eng 1 is a quick MOT theres some info elsewhere.

If you are applying for this September you might be pushing your luck a little, many companies are already recruiting for NEXT (14) year's intakes, but NOT everyone....and there is always a chance that there are drop out and exam results that dont go the right way etc, but thats a bit like pinning your retirement plans on winning the lottery

          oh and welcome aboard
          Trust me I'm a Chief.

Yes I work for the big blue canoe company.
No I do not report things from here to them as they are quite able to come and read this stuff for themselves.

              Thanks for the welcome Chiefy,

Appreciate the reality check on likelihood of recruitment this September too.

I'm hoping to get in with CMT & study from LJMU in Liverpool - sooner rather than later as I'm bored as hell at work!
