  • Hi everybody

    Hi everybody!
I'm certified OOW without any experience as a deck officer. Looking for work for almost 2 years now. Who knows maybe this forum will help.
    Cheers!

Have you considered volunteer work with Mercy Ships or one of the sailing trusts?
Lack of experience is a killer in this industry... but I guess you worked that one out...

What are sailing trusts? Never heard about them.... I've contacted Mercy ships, I'll see maybe something will turn up.

Sailing trusts, like the jubilee sailing trusts, the square riggers club, youth tall ships and what not.

Just had a look at mercy ships and it all sounded like a lovely idea until I saw that drinking, smoking and sexual immorality were banned, you had to attend church parades and community gatherings and you had to pay for your room and food on board and shell out for travel as well.

I thought the merch was all about rum, bum and baccy and getting to travel at someone else's expense?

I think the only thing its really about now is the traveling at someone elses (minimal) expense, unless im doing it wrong
you can take it with a pinch of salt, but i prefer it with a nip of whisky

Yeah, Mercy ships did appeal to me on some levels until I found out that they were a religious organization - shame really as they do good work.

That is twice now you have fallen for what the Recruitment posters said - when will you EVER learn?

If only you could see the disappointment on your surrogate fathers face, Guinnessman. The anguish is just too painful to watch. I have no idea what the youth of today is doing, you really need to pull your socks up. Now go out and prove him wrong and get 90% or more in all of the exams coming up and maybe he will stop tutting. He is tutting that much that he sounds like a football rattle and has blisters on the roof of his mouth.

Let me buy you a pint of whisky Guinessman to sooth your brow. Need a straw with that?
