  • Hello to All

    Hi to all,

Iv been registered onto the website for a couple of weeks now and realised I had not introduced myself yet.

My name is Dale and I am aspiring deck cadet, although aspiring is the wrong word as I WILL become a deck cadet it is just a matter of when.

I need to say thanks to the website creators and users as without this website I would not have the direction that I needed to know who to apply for and what their respective requirements are to apply.

If anybody has any questions please post them and I will be happy to answer them.

Again a MASSIVE HI to everyone and a MASSIVE THANKS to the all.

    Hi there COTB,

Welcome to to the site. Glad you managed to find some information that was useful to you and furthered your application. Have you applied for any companies yet? Do you know what sort of ships you'd like to work on.

    Happy posting

      Hi Randomist,
Iv applied for CMT, SSTG, Carnival, Maersk. I have had responses from Carnival and Maersk.
I originally wanted to be on cruise ships but the more I have thought about it and researched the many different ships available, I would now like to work on Container, LNG or Reefer ships, although if a cruise position came available I would consider it.
How long have you been enjoying the nautical lifestyle?

Hey there welcome to the site, it’s very good; I honestly don't think I'd have got my cadetship without it! Good luck with your applications. Well done for not just wanting cruise ships you have immediately endeared yourself to many for having an open mind!

Hello Have you given Bibbys a call ? They have an agreement with CMA CG for cadetships and also run Ro-Ro's (MOD) which are all British crewed.

The Point class Ro-Ro vessels are operated by Foreland http://www.foreland-shipping.co.uk/index.html who have sub-contracted their crew management to Bibby Ship Management. Bibby Line has a 25% share in Foreland.

I was going to apply for Bibby but they are only offering the FD route, unfortunately for me I can only do the HND route, otherwise I would have applied for them also.

I thought the HND route had already been stopped ? At least i thought it had when i was at college last year.

The HNC is certainly being phased out more or less, but the HND is being introduced in its place. The HND gives exemptions for your chief's ticket, and the HND is considered to be a slightly higher qualification than the HNC, even though both are level 4. You're also entitled to use post nominals with the HND
