  • Hello!

    Hello all,

I'm starting the FD Deck course at Fleetwood next week. I left the RN last year and have decided to come over to the dark side.

    See you around,

Welcome to the light side! I don't know about Bullsh*t free seafaring, but there's a lot less saluting over this way!

Fair one Size4, what's the obsession amongst nautical training establishments with having their cadets complete team building tasks on a wet and windy mountain? Or is the camping trip a little less hardcore than I am expecting?!

            Welcome!!

Some sort of team building. At least at Warsash it's only a day paintballing. Shooting people makes you remarkably close!

Surely being shot at has a very similar effect!!

Just read on the other thread that you'd been to BRNC, so AET was rather off the mark. Don't the MCA give you a lot of credit for RN seatime and whatnot? I do find it unbelievable that the RFA insist on sending ex-RN BRNC graduates back for a second round, though ISTR one or two exceptions.

I don't usually confirm or deny my identity as I'd rather have the latitude to speak freely, but in this instance I can say: Hell no!
Are you thinking of Steve Tierney? That's going back a few years! He was pensioned off for being colour blind. Damned good job going undetected for so long!

Depends what you call hardcore. Think more along the lines of a management team building weekend. There was a nice walk, and there was a longer walk, which for me got cut short halfway through cos out tents flew away, for which I was inordinately grateful. There were some who jogged the whole bloody thing and finished in the time it took my lot to get to the halfway point! There was also some team building excersises and stuff. If I say anymore Nathan will hunt me down and kill me, it's meant to be a surprise! (So when they ask if you have any idea of what's coming up over the weekend, you look innocent and say No!)

I didn't actually get to go to sea to do what I trained to do, got lumped with loads of holding appointments
