  • Hello!

Hi, I'm Kes, I have applied to become a deck cadet and I am also an aspiring social worker ... my other half is an engineer cadet. The main reason I've joined is to find out useful hints and tips to pass on to my sea cadets who are interested in joining the navy/merchant navy! Any useful hints, tips or advice I can pass on to them will be gratefully recieved!

    Re: Hello!

Yes! This website and the www.careersatsea.org

That should be enough for them to handle. There is also some industry ambassadors or some such nonsense floating around the UK as well....
I love deadlines. I like the whooshing sound they make as they fly by.....

      Re: Hello!

You may also want to consider the "Careers at sea ambassadors", you can find info on them here and also how to request a visit from one; http://www.mntb.org.uk/request_a_visit-25.aspx

YesI would recommend applying for the resources from the link Alistair has provided, they give talks but also can just send you videos and documentries about the job.

Also STV did a documentary about the Merchant Navy which might be worth a watch

Mixed feelings about that documentry, its a good introduction to people who have never heard of it, but in reality its quite a bit different, a lot more involed, but also a hell of a lot more fun!
