  • Working on US ships ?

Is it true, that seafarers of any qualification, from any country, can not work on any US flagged ships, because of some labor union, which forbids internationals from entering the US maritime labor market ?

Not entirely sure, so don't quote me, but I believe it is something to do with the Jones Act...
I love deadlines. I like the whooshing sound they make as they fly by.....

US flagged ships are closed shops to non US personnel (sea staff)

The unions bid for each ship on the flag and will then man them through their Union Hall system, very odd, very hard work, drove me mental when I did a spot of Vessel Managing

No I do not report things from here to them as they are quite able to come and read this stuff for themselves.

But of course, if you are an American that wants a British CEC - no worries!

Even for foreigners who have the right to live and work in the US, the process for obtaining a USCG certificate of equivalent competency is a long and difficult one.

i am not entirely sure about it. But if it is right why people of other countries with seafarers can not work on any flagged ships?
