Is it true that Indian officers and engineers are not preferred as crew in Cruise Line ships because they face racism? For eg: in companies like Cunard and Royal Caribbean?

Directly no, but indirectly there is possibly some. You will find a wide variety of nationalities in senior roles onboard the cruise lines, including Indian. However, it must also be borne in mind that the majority of passengers are North American or European, and having the traditional Western Officers who they can easily interact with is expected to some extent as part of the experience and the cruise lines will try to meet that expectation. Although cost is becoming an issue, North Americans and Europeans want to cruise for as cheaply as possible, thus the salaries are at the very lowest end that most Westerners can afford to live a reasonable quality of life on which of course is much more expensive then in Indian, so I expect to see a wider variety of nationalities in Officers/Engineering roles.
That being said, cruising is increasing in China and Japan, and I suspect we will start to see more of those nationalities manning ships based out there.

I wouldn't call it racism per-say Pritam, I think that's a very loaded term. It's more preference due to economic factors, and it works both ways as some sectors rarely employ Brits (looking at you bulk sector) as it's cheaper to employ Indians, Filipinos, Burmese etc.

Do the engineers at all interact officially with the passengers onboard? For deck officers, I can agree and can see why.

Im sure engineer officers attend captains cocktail parties etc the only officer who I assume makes public appearances and interacts with passengers regularly is the captain.

The only social difference between deck and engineer officers is the little purple flash that engineers have between their stripes...

Not always engineers from some countries wear epaulettes without purple bit.

The point I was trying to make is that deck officers are not some special form of being that's superior to everyone else. They're part of the ship's crew just like engineers and ETOs and ratings all of whom do their bit in keeping the ship going.

And that most engineers tend to be grumpy militant buggers who refuse to do any socialising wheras deck despite their best attempts never seem to get away with not attending.

I dunno, I swear the third on this ship has tunnels... He has a habit of sneaking up on you in the darkness, saying "Yes Master Pirate", causing you to stab yourself with your cutlass as you jump out of your skin!
