Company nicknames

Can we perhaps ease back with the company nick names?

Its awfully confusing for new folk who don't know all the nick names, and so the information becomes useless...

Compromise.

One or two big ones ought to stay, but most of the rest I suppose aren't necessary.

I'm not big on them either to be honest. Right now we're getting people coming from searches like "Company X cadetship" and without the big company names Google will get confused.

Some are concerned about companies searching and seeing stuff; and some want cadets to find the stuff easily.

Has anyone tested Google search results?
Is the site coming up at all?
Are site members finding the site through social media or through googling?

I don't know whether it's a good or a bad thing for companies to easily find the site and stuff on it and whose posting it, but I suspect that it's a "genie out of the bottle" thing.

I think as long as the permissions are strong and there is adequate anonymisation for those who want it, the bots can be allowed to roam free.


The current set up is just because I switched bot access off after rejigging the forums in order to clear Google's bot cache of what they'd picked up.
I'm not sure exactly how often the bots visit, but probably quite often.
I did some random google searches on things with company names in
just to see whether anything came up. Nothing did, so long as the bots are restricted to guest-viewable things it should be fine(-ish).
