  • Not sure where my contribution has gone

    Afternoon

I posted a comment yesterday about study progression from ratings apprenticeships and put it in the colleges area. Having noticed that it has now disappeared I see that the colleges sub forum is limited to participants from particular colleges. Fair enough, I must admit it just did not notice that when I posted. Where should I post a message of interest? We are the only provider of professional practice/work based learning study opportunities for UK mariners and the pathway from ratings is not widely known.

To be fair several users have reported you to the Admin for what they construe to be advertising. This is against the Forum Guidelines.

You have made 3 posts of which 2 have been reported (by different people) this isn't a good statistic, by all means offer help and advice but less with the marketing and more with the help and it'll be fine

Yes I work for the big blue canoe company.
No I do not report things from here to them as they are quite able to come and read this stuff for themselves.

GM, we give you plenty of leash on this forum, but you're pushing it there. Play Nice.

I am of the opinion that this guy has good intentions, to tell people that there are options out there other than doing a cadetship is no bad thing. I think the problem has come from the fact that there is no other source talking about this and therefore it appears, on the surface at least, that he is advertising this course/option rather than simply letting it be known that it is there. If it is the only option open to people who don't want to do a cadetship, then it's difficult to put it any other way though. The OP needs to be careful about how he/she words their posts sound; if two of thier posts have been flagged as advertising by members then they should be aware that this is how they come across. However, members should also be aware that a new option isn't neccessarily a bad thing, and being told about it isn't bad at all. We appreciate the concern and encourage members to continue to flag anything they suspect to be inappropriate, but it is the administration's decision as to whether a member is flouting the guidelines. (To review the guidelines see the Forum guidelines thread http://www.officercadet.com/showthre...rum-Guidelines)

A quick bit of research on the Middlesex Uni website shows that all is genuine GuinessMan, to calm your fears. I personally haven't heard of anyone coming through the Middlesex University options, so it appears to be something quite new (could be wrong).

New things are good but, the option to "work your way up" has been there forever, I have sailed with several Captains who went through this system starting as Deck Boys and then full AB and Bosun before "changing sides" the OP has posted only 3 times of which 2 where reported with concerns, given the OP is genuine then some more help /advice in general rather than just popping up to tell us about courses at thier educational establishment would be appreciated
