  • Maths worries....

How intense is the maths for engine cadets?

Am a bit worried after looking through http://www.officercadet.org/pmwiki/pmwi ... rEngineers

Did A-level maths many years ago and it is a misty blur

Does the course start with revision, getting everyone up to the same standard?

Does the HND maths start at the lower level?

Yup. They'll help you revise all your maths to begin with, or at least they did with us as some of us (me included) hadn't done maths in years!
I love deadlines. I like the whooshing sound they make as they fly by.....

From what I have gathered from other threads on here, is to not worry too much about the maths.
Jus work through the maths CD provided and you will be OK. The Maths assesment on the second day is to find out how much help you will need on the course. If you do terribly you will be asked to do extra work to get your maths up to scratch.

Has anyone received any maths tests or similar from South Tyneside for the electro course?

My paperwork was quite late to arrive so just wanted to check I'm not in for a surprise maths test on Monday 6th.

              Re: Maths worries....

Its tough. Nothing but the truth. Its been 10 years since I did maths, and that was at lower GCSE level so I found it difficult and so did a bunch of the other older lads in class who had been out of school at the earliest possible oportunity!

But with some hard graft, help from tutors and more importantly calssmates, I got through maths, mechanics and thermodynamics in the first year all with a pass.

The hard graft ment working in the library till 9 or 10 at night and then actually revising for the phase tests and end of term exams. Basically its ****ing hard but if you put the effort in you reap the rewards.

If you find any of your lectures difficult theres always extra classes to attend to or visit your lecturer in out of clas times if possible, lessons like mechanics seem impossible at first but once you get your head around it, it aint so bad Only thing i found difficult was transposition, still ain't got a clue!

Yeah transposition is a bastard right. The extra classes at Warsash with a guy called Mr Bill Lee are well worth attending if you are having any probs with maths, thermo or mechanics. He is very helpful and very patient.
