    Sponsoring Companies and Collages

    Next month, I shall be having my interview with Clyde Marine Training.

    My main preference is this - I do NOT want to do my cadetship at Glasgow. This is due to it's poor reputation at the moment.

    Keeping this preference in mind, CMT send their cadets (provided the sponsoring company agrees) to the closest collage to the individuals home. This would mean that I would be sent to Glasgow.

    Maersk do NOT send their cadets to Glasgow at the moment. What I want to know is which sponsors under Clyde do not send their cadets to Glasgow?

    As of this intake.. They do.
    The games are always, repeat, always, being played. But nobody plays the games like me. You just have to be the best.. And I usually am. Same rules apply.

      Ask at the interview. Have you got an interview with maersk?

            Clyde gives you a sponsor a few weeks into college, however the college you go to is decided way before this fact. I'd say it was hard to speculate if the sponsor even has a say in which college you go to without working at Clyde. The cadets for the company I sailed with came from all the marine colleges in the UK.However, the line Clyde took with cadets when I started was to send them to a college far from home to get used to being away, and cadets had to have Clyde agree at the offer stage if they wanted to stay close to home.

              Yeah I would agree never heard of clyde sending people to colleges close to home, with the exception of mature cadets who have family. If you live in Glasgow, STC and Fleetwood are good as while you are far enough away you can still get home for a weekend which is handy at times.

              However the best mindset to go to CMT with is that at the end you will get out and have the qualification you want regardless of which sponsor or college you go to. if you try to force your own will on it things will be harder
              you can take it with a pinch of salt, but i prefer it with a nip of whisky

                I'm only 21, and asked for Fleetwood as I live an hour away. They were happy to oblige. Although I do have experience of living away from home and working at sea...
