From what I know of the RNR you would struggle to get the training days in during the cadetship as while you wont be at sea all the time your not at college it tends to be poorly timed so to plan things becomes difficult. It should be possible once working but your company could still object

Depends. For most of the army reserve you have to commit to serving 27 days per year and you are generally required to attend a 2 week annual camp. Given the way the shipping industry works, you may be unable to attend the camps that you need to.

The RNR do have jobs specifically for MN officers, have you had a look at them?

it shouldn't be a problem am in TA now. Unit seems happy with it am free a lot during the week a lot and they struggle when they need to get people during week for stuff. Couple of times I been away at annual camp time but they just arranged for me to go to a nearby units camp at a different time. To be honest I quite enjoyed it chance to do different things and get some inter unit banter.

The only thing is I don't think it would work as an officer but sqaudies get to do all the fun jobs anyway.

Ps i'd join before you start your cadet ship
A, because they'll probably be more accommodating if they know you and B will look good on CV for applying.
