As title says, does SSTG pay for our uniform? I was just looking at prices and it looks like a lot of money, which will be hard for me to afford.

Re: Does SSTG pay for uniform?
Hey,
SSTG give you an allowance towards your uniform, I think it's ?100. With that they expect you to get shirts, trousers, RN style jumper, safety boots and a boiler suit.
They give you epaulettes and a tie and if you go on a ship that requires anymore than the basics above then they will rebate you the cost of the extra stuff such as the jacket and hat.
I got my stuff from S.M.Bass in Manchester which turned out to be the expensive option but other SSTG guys I know have managed to stay within the ?100 allowance.

Do SSTG give you the ?100 before you buy the various apparel?
Or do you pay for it first, and then claim the money back?I Aear c?n ven na mar. (Elvish)

Before, depending when you buy it. My ?100 came in towards the end of my first year a couple of months before being due to go to sea. Not sure if it's any different on the FD and HND courses but that's how it worked out on the Bsc.

Re: Does SSTG pay for uniform?
SSTG told me that i must buy my kit with my own money then send them copies of the receipts and they will then reimburse me 100 pound or how ever much i spent if it was less than 100I like turtles
If I offend I'm sorry, please, please forgive, for I am Triumph, the puppet dog, I am a mere puppet, I can get away with anything I say and you will love it.

Re: Does SSTG pay for uniform?
I was told the same thing as Noobert. Didn't particularly like the lady at S M Bass. Made me feel as if I was being troublesome asking questions, such as, how much does something costAlso looked at Miller Rayner, but everything seemed quite expensive, especially if its all meant to come within the ?100 budget. After a bit of searching found this website, www.uniformexpress.co.uk, which does the Nato Jumpers, pilot shirts, overalls, all at pretty decent prices. Haven't got my stuff through yet, only ordered a couple of days ago, and they probably wont be the best quality, but for going to classes and practical use I thought I would just go for them, since if any get damaged or worn, they're cheap enough to easily replace.
I'll put up another post once i have the stuff and see what they're like. Also planning on getting trousers from Slaters, since they have good quality stuff, not that expensive and I can get trousers that properly fit, and if they need adjusting in the future, then Slaters does free alterations for life.
