  • Clyde Marine Cut off Date and guaranteed rejection or acceptance letter question

    Hi

Apologies, its "another Mum" here looking out for the best interests of his son.

Just a quick question, My son went for an interview with Clyde Marine hopefully for the January intake, however we seem to be nearing the end of the year and Christmas is soon upon us and he is getting extremely worried, anxious (that includes me) about whether he will be accepted as he has now rejected various other paid jobs for the new year in the hope of a positive response from Clyde.

Can anyone advise when the likelyhood of a letter would come
The course starts end of January and would like to sort out all paperwork in good time if accepted
What are the cut off dates
Is 2 weeks wait normal or can it be more, is that a good sign rather than bad?

    Any advice appreciated

(an anxious Mum ((Hopefully he wont see this))

    Anyone have any other advice?

Hi there, I've just accepted an offer from Clyde after an unusually long application period (by the time I join it will have been just over a year since I sent my application) so I can definatley sympathise with your son's position. I'll try to answer your questions to the best of my ability but I must stress that I am not an expert on the recruitment process and the following is based on my own experiences which may differ from those of your son. Anyway I hope this helps:

    1) As I understand it Clyde are in the habit of sending out letters to cadets who have been unsuccessful at the interview stage. Even if the start date for January comes and goes without receiving one, there is still a chance that he may be considered for the following intake.

    2) I don't think there are any formal cut-off dates for receipt of paper-work (other than the course start date). For last september's intake some Clyde cadets got offered places less than a week before the course start date and still managed to get all the nessecaries sorted prior to joining, so I would assume that there is a degree of flexibility involved.

    3) A 2 week wait is nothing to worry about, the timescales involved vary hugely from applicant to applicant and range from a few hours to several months.

Only advice I can really offer is for him to call in occasionally and very politely ask if there have been any further developments regarding the outcome of his application. Clyde also like to E-mail acceptances as well as post them so I would strongly advise anyone waiting from them to check their 'junk' folders on a regular basis. Here's hoping that he doesn't have to wait too much longer.

Thanks to you both above for your responses.

Just a case of sweating it out I suppose. I have looked at his junk email and nothing there as yet. Just hope the postman brings an A4 sized letter.............Waiting, waiting, waiting......

Thanks again and Im sure if I have any further questions I will post or PM

There were two lads in my pre cadetship class who got taken on by Clyde in the January 2012 intake and got told they where starting the Friday before they had to start. I think he's probably going to get it, if he wasn't then they'd have told you, I also hear they have lots of places going.

Just out of curiosity how many places do you think there are for the impending January courses?

It seems a little harsh to make cadets sweat it out over the xmas period

Anyway, thanks for your response, must get back to motherly duties and make sure I keep them fed over the next few days

              Merry Christmas to you all
