  • MCA Letter of Initial Assessment for ETO?

    Hi all,

I graduated in 2012 with Bachelor's Degree in Electronics and Computer Engineering. Currently I work as Software Engineer. I am considering Electro-Technical Officer cadetship as I am not sure if I will be able to find anything without doing cadetship first.
I was wondering if there is some kind of Fast-Track for electronic engineers (wishful thinking).
I have contacted Clyde Marine Training, Warsash Maritime Academy and MCA.
Clyde Marine Training pointed me at MCA to obtain Letter of Initial Assessment, but also suggested that the above type of course is not for me, apparently I'm overqualified.
Anyway I have contacted MCA, one person told me to apply for ETO certificate and complete training book, I assume on cadetship.
Second person told me to apply for Letter of Initial Assessment and then the school I would like to attend the course at, would give me details which modules do I need to study and for which modules I will get exemption.
Finally I contacted Warsash Maritime Academy. Same thing again, apply for Letter of Initial Assessment.

Here is the page where I found info about Letter of Initial Assessment http://www.dft.gov.uk/mca/mcga07-hom...eering-lia.htm
    and the application form: http://www.dft.gov.uk/mca/lia_app_form_all_rev_0713.pdf

My question is, did anyone go through this process or knows something about it, I have doubts if this applies to ETO courses, for me it looks like it is only for merchant navy engineers, I might be wrong.

If someone could share their view on that I would be very grateful.

    Thank you.
