  • Criminal record

    Hi

I'm looking into applying for a cadet ship soon but I am unsure whether I will be rejected due to my criminal record. I got fined when I was 15 for shoplifting and twice for pick pocketing. This is now forever written on my file. Will any employers have to ask me about my criminal record and will it stop me getting a job?

Thanks and please don't judge, I've changed now and learned from my mistakes

The only people who could answer this would be the training companies. I probably depends on how long ago it was. I knew a few guys the class above and below had some history and stuff so don't think your going to get put aside for a criminal history but best phone and have a chat with them.

The only problem I can see with a criminal record is when you apply for a visa for somewhere like the USA, you need to go to the embassy and they check into this sort of thing, but things like theft when you were younger I wouldn't say would be enough for them to reject your visa, so you should be all good i'd imagine

A criminal record is usually fine, it's only if you have to get a US visa you may struggle, but once you have a job and do need to get a US visa, talk to your company and their normally good. Two people in my year had them and just got given trips with no US ports, I think one even got rejected then went back and got one.
