Compasses or Compasses

Hi,
Here's a silly question for you;

I'm starting at an HND deck cadet in September and on my kit list from the college it says "Compasses", now I'm assuming that this means a compass you put you're pencil into aposse to the directional one?

Yes dear. As in a pair of compasses rather than a (magnetic or gyro) compass.

Spend a little bit more get a decent set of brass ones. It's worth it.

Suggest you pick up a set of technical drawing compasses as well for radar plotting. Don't get the one's with the thumbwheel adjustment as these are a real pain

<SHAMELESS PLUG> My other half is setting up an online shop in mid-August selling chartwork instruments, including the decent brass compasses at non-ridiculous prices (currently the cheapest you'll find them is about ?24, which is way too much) so keep your eyes peeled. </SHAMELESS PLUG>
