  • sea phase without going to sea

    hey all

i'm with well know training company currently on my sea phase (phase2) i have been home almost 5 months now waiting to go to sea every time i contact my training officer he says they are waiting to hear from my sponsoring company last time i've contacted him he finally told me there is huge waiting list and even a chance of not going to sea at all so my question are
has anyone experince this before not going to sea at all on the first sea phase?
how does this effect to college, exams, trb and reports etc?
we get 12 months on phase 4 but i need minumum 12 months sea time it's very unlikely that i will be at sea entire 12 months so what happens if i dont get my 12 months sea time before my cadetship finishes? do i get back phase?
what happens to mca oral if i dont have enough sea time ?go to sea come back but then i will miss oral prep classes?

If you don't get enough sea time, you will do another Sea Phase after Phase 5. It's not common but I think most classes have someone that this happens to.

But if you don't get to Sea at all, then you have a problem. If your company and Training agent doesn't seem willing to help, I don't know what you could do. Are you a member of Nautilus? They might be able to put some pressure on your company.

      Sea time

Hello, I understand your concerns and this is indeed a strange circumstance.

It is the responsibility of your sponsorship company to provide you with the minimum required sea time as stated in the trainee sponsorship agreement. Your training company should have in my opinion changed your sponsor company as it seems your sponsor company are unable or unwilling to provide you with this sea time.

Have you considered contacting a trade union such as Nautilus about this matter?

Who is your training company and sponsor companies?

What pressure can Nautilus put on the company? Not very much...

At the end of the day there could be a whole host of reasons as why you can't join a ship at that particular time (position, cargo, routing, finding a berth, etc).

My advice would be to wait, but continue to call your training officer on a regular basis and ask for updates...
I love deadlines. I like the whooshing sound they make as they fly by.....

All posts here represent my own opinion and not that of my employer.
