  • Clyde Marine Offer

I've been offered a place for the foundation degree but I'm struggling with my classe right now, if I were not to meet there condition would they drop me down to HND or just take away my place?

    Thanks.

What class are you struggling with? a lot of the subjects you learn in your cadetship are different from anything you do at school.

Have you signed your contract yet? I would have thought that would give a few details

Theirs not much difference in PD and HND. If you really do think you will struggle you might consider the HNC.

Why is this in the Anon forum?
I love deadlines. I like the whooshing sound they make as they fly by.....

All posts here represent my own opinion and not that of my employer.

PD/FD is on the same course as HND so you would get dropped down to HNC if your grades aren't good enough, you can still go on and do HND once you finish HNC course.

I've been browsing this site for a while and I know exactly why this isn't in the anon section: The anon section is the only area you can post without having to register. There seems to be a large group of people who browse the forum and only post once or twice with a specific question (in the anon forum). Who can blame them for taking the shorter route and bypassing having to regisiter for the sake of one question?

I actually find the responses from some of the board members to be counter-productive on this anon posting topic (and it was discussed in another thread). Responses such as 'why is this here?' or closing the thread and advising the poster to sign up and repost can alienate them, losing people knowledgeable about the merchant navy from this site. If you really want to stop irrelevant posts in the anon section, and increase the knowledge base, open up the other sections to un-registered posters. Its human nature to take the quickest route, call that lazy but no amount of 'why is this here?' posts will stop it.

Take me as a case in point, I browse this site for general information occasionally and thought I'd reply to the quoted comment as it needs to be adressed before your readership grows tired of these type comments and moves on. Did I register to post? No, because I'll only be posting once. Thats if this reply even gets past the mods, but for whoever reads this first I think it would be good form to approve and see what peoples opinions are.

I think this is a fair one for the anonymous forum. Presumably the Op is worried about his potential employer finding about his misgivings.

Yeah I thought so, the worry is if I fail will they remove my place and I won't get on the cadet ship rather than being dropped down to the HNC?

I have my acceptance offer through and I haven't sent it back yet, is it likely that once I send it back in there reply it might have more details?

As the man said, potential employers may see this. Might be being a bit paranoid but it happens. If you not going to be helpful dont post please.

You're not actually anonymous. You logged in to post the question.

Not too sure, I sent my contract back for countersigning and haven't received a copy back yet.

I think what GM was getting at is that you've logged in to ask this question, and so the exact same information is available as would be in any other part of the forum, which is that you're an aspiring engine cadet going to glasgow with a username of hotnspicy. Not an awful lot to identify you.
If you want to make a truly anonymous post (no one can see your username) then you have to log out and write it.

The reason people are asked to sign up and post in appropriate threads is to ensure that the forum remains organised and useful. It makes it a lot more difficult for users to find the information they need if it's all in the anonymous forum, whereas questions in the correct section mean that newcomers (and oldcomers) can go to the appropriate section and narrow down their search. It's the difference between a filing system and just piling everything on your desk, using folders on your computer or just leaving everything on the desktop.

It's completely fair to enforce people to sign up except for delicate anonymous posts. Remember that this is a privately owned and operated website, and those responding are simply people like myself who have taken a few spare minutes of our time to help others. There is no other forum with the same amount of users as this one for active uk seafarers.

Doubt it very much, I was supposed to be in HNC course then 3 days before I was due to start CMT phoned me saying I could be in the HND because they hadn't realised what grades I had. Sign your acceptance offer and send it back to CMT and you should have no problems as long as your grades are good enough for the HNC at least then you will be fine.

Quite annoying that I had my interview almost 4 months ago and still haven't heard anything back. Hmmm.....
