I'm already a member before anyone bites!!

If you fail only the hearing or sight module on your ENG 1 medical, what happens? Do you recieve the ticket with restrictions or do you have to undergo further tests which may not be available on that day or at that medical facility?

    Many thanks.

Depends on how severe the defect was I guess, obviously colour blindness is an absolute no-no for deckies. If you are suspected colour blind you'd be sent for additional testing. However the hearing test I've been given the last couple of times seems to be pretty rigorous. You could be told to go and get it checked out/treated by a specialist before they issue you with a full ENG1.

As far as I know, to work at sea you need a full ENG1. The only restrictions I've heard about people getting away with is NON-Watchkeepers who have colour blindness (i.e. engineers).

There are other restrictions which can apply, I recently sailed with an engineer who had just had a quadruple heart bypass and one of the restrictions (among many) on his medical was that he was not allowed to work alone in any compartment.

Horrified me that he was allowed back to sea at all!
      Go out, do stuff
