  • Failing a drugs test

Hello, I am posting under anomynous due to private concerns but - I have a potential drugs test in september, I smoked cannabis on june 3rd for the first time and that was the only time I have smoked it since, will i fail this drugs test?

Also if i am in a ventilated area with people smoking cannabis can i fail due to second hand smoke?

    Thanks for the help

Your not likely to fail as it will have passed through your system in the 3 months, as for second hand smoke, it will need to be more than just the scent on the wind but yes it is possible. i guess little amounts over lots of time could also build up to cause a posivitve result.

So basically if your out every night with mates who are smoking then i would advise a bit of thinking.
you can take it with a pinch of salt, but i prefer it with a nip of whisky

You'll be fine. But yeah, maybe time to think about who you hang out with.

        Bloody hell, this again...

No it probably won't show, you know the rules about drug testing and no you won't get any sympathy if you get caught out whether it be passive or not.

To be honest I hope you do fail, I don't wana have people on ships that knowingly take illegal drugs or that continue to hang out with people that do. You have the wrong mind set for this sort of thing.

I smoked it in the knowledge it passes through within 2-7 days, this was before i had an offer for a company or anything, I had had 1 interview at this point.
And the people I hang out with are fine theres just 1 guy in my friend circle that smokes it often, just want to know whether to avoid him when he is smoking it. And you hope I do fail it? wow bit heavy on their I tried it once before I commit to a lifelong career of drugs free, rather know what its like rather than never know and perhaps be curious later down the line.

As you can see from the reaction here, drugs and seafaring isn't a particularly good mix.

You've made a mistake, now its time to learn from it. If you want a long and successful career at sea, avoid drugs and avoid the people and culture that surround them.

We all make mistakes, and if what you've said is true, I think you'll get through this test, but take it as a lesson.

You will be fine. I'm not going to get involved with the whole drugs / seafaring thing, obviously 'drugs are bad etc' but trying Cannabis once in your life hardly makes you a drug user. So unlike Ganner and Aleorea I don't hope you fail any test, and am confident that you will not.

Haha yes using drugs hardly makes you a drug user! I love how people have scales, how many times must you smoke it to be a drug user? Can you have a go of heroin and not be one? Don't be ridiculous he is a drug user and he made a choice to do so. Do I want someone on my ship that knows there are rules in place with set repercussions yet still chooses to ignore the rules for their own experimentation? Do I hell even if he only des it once, that might be the time he puts the ship in danger.

Your right Ganner. What a lot of people confuse is drug user with drug addict but the second you take a pill, inject, consume or inhale any illegal drug you become a drug user plain and simple.
I would hate to be on a ship with a drug user that has responsibilities, as you said that might be the time they put the ship or crew in danger.

Jeezo ganner, as the person says they weren't yet part of the "rules and repercussions" and I don't think having a cheeky spliff when you're a youngster really falls into the same category as being a pure mad junkie. I'm fairly sick of people going on about how intolerable drugs are, then happily going on the shot till 5 in the morning and being in the e/r at 8 to start work. That's substance abuse.

Yes, quite agree with Mak - having worked with several chain smoking alcoholics over the years you guys going on about a kid trying dope once being a 'drug user' is so ridiculous it actually makes my mind hurt.

So Holynougat, if people who use use/try drugs are not drug users what are they? When do people become users and addicts? Is it the 1st, 2nd or 3rd they use them? Your either a user or not, theres no middle ground.
The OP knew what career path he was pursuing yet still took the decision to take drugs. Had he taken them before having a interview and applying to companies its a different story but he has actively set out for a career in the MN THEN decided to take drugs.
