Its a difficult situation... perhaps try volunteering with Sail Training or Mercy ships if the thing with HAL does not come off. I was looking for people for a job a few months ago and its the default setting to ignore people with no experience.

I've been looking for a first job as a third/fourth since qualifying last year... one interview with Viking for HAL and apparently I was successful and am on a list waiting for a position to come up. Long wait! Beginning to think the job doesn't exist and Viking are still interviewing for the same positions. Any
body know what's going on?

Thanks for commenting. Calling hasn't helped - just told same thing that they'll be in touch when a vacancy comes up.and no, I don't have cruise experience - wish I did! Seems no jobs out there for deck officers with no experience.

Have you got any cruise experience? If you have you stand a chance of getting shifted sideways to another of their companies if you know who to ask.
