As a point Cal Mac and North link (scottish island ferrys) train in partnership with Stena (NMM) so you will do one trip coastal with them and then the rest deep sea with Stena.

I'm joining the Stena Atlantica on Saturday, have previously been on one of their ferrys. nothing bad to report really a lot of the ships are fairly new, which is good from my point of view and they had a reaosnable level of crew comfort onboard. They also have a pretty wide selection of ship types so you can get more experience which should help when you wish to find a job.
Friends are with Subsea 7, they seem to enjoy it got a reasonable amount of the stuff they needed done
no idea about DFDS so i wont say anything
you can take it with a pinch of salt, but i prefer it with a nip of whisky
