Signatures in Ops Workbook

Question for deck cadets....

I've done a lot for my ops and nav workbooks and it's all been checked over to make sure there's no mistakes, but the officers who checked it never signed anything and there's nothing in the guidance in the TRB to say it needs to be signed, but someone's told me that I should have been getting them to sign reports and entries into my nav workbook.

Will I have a problem when it comes to sending things to the MCA?

Im not to sure about this either.

But my staff captain just told me to hand everything into him in my last couple of weeks and he will sign it. Theres no harm in having a signature on something and the way I look at it is by handing it in it proves you actually did this and not just made it up

It's more a college thing than MCA thing (I think - given that they never looked at my ops / nav workbook)... it is a good idea to get the cover page / first page of each report signed and stamped by one of the officers onboard since they are meant to confirm what you wrote is correct - if you haven't don't worry about it, just get any future ones signed and stamped.

If its for foundation - I go nothing stamped in my ops workbook unless it was evidence. I stamped a few calculations in my nav work book but didnt get every page stamped. The reports were just reports I made up (as nothing is set like the HND folio)

The "new style" HND uses the same TRB as the FD, with no set reports.

Dude, It's ALL evidence!! I work on the basis of getting everything stamped, because then there's no way you can be accused of fudging it later. If I did it on the ship, I get a stamp, and a signature, and on as many pages as I can get them!

I never stamp anything tbh. You can't really fudge the reports because they aren't mandatory and I suppose in theory, if you could write a report about the most advanced tasks on board, but never actually perform them, then it still counts as a report and evidence. I do have every report signed by an officer though

If the FD ops workbook is the equivalent of the HND nav workbook then it will need to be sighted by the MCA and handed in at least 48 hours before your oral exam.

In an ideal world everything should have a signature and stamp to it, however it is not the end of the world if this is not the case.

At the end of your ship appointment as cadet, or at the end of your last sea phase get your DSTO to sight your entire workbook and sign it off at the end as 'sighted' this is sufficient for the MCA.

Remember it is PROGRESS the examiner wishes to see so quanity and quality rule in equal measure. You may go down the route of just submitting the required amount, which is ok if it's all there after all there's a lot to do during a cadetship. If you go down that route be prepared for the examiner to ask more in depth questions as he. Has to be sure you understand what you've put in the workbook.

From what I understand, the college take your workbooks away and grade them. And then the examiner can tell roughly from the grade the college give you what to expect, and how hard to push you in the exams. I'm not entirely sure how accurate that is though.
