  • Exam results!

hey! ive been accepted by a shipping company and will start a degree in sept 2011. I have an unconditional but i only just have the required ucas points. I have to phone up when i find out my results for my exams just to let them know what i got. im worried because i have stopped working as hard knowing that i had an unconditional, if i dont get good results "my contract may be reviewed". im 50% sure i will do ok in my exams but i am resiting maths and english and i hope i do ok! Any comments or words of wisdom?

    Thanks, Alec

In all honesty, if you're serious about the job be serious about the exams. The contract will be under review if you don't get the required grades and they may revoke their offer of employment, you haven't signed anything yet.
On the other hand, try not to get this concern mixed up with exam nerves. Everyone worries about exams and it's easy to think you're not doing the work.

Best advice is to try your best, if you don't get the grades you want but you tried your hardest you won't feel like you've let yourself down.

        Alec,

I understand your worries completely, the wait for results is a killer, however, if (god forbid) you don't get the results you wanted, you may be entitled to the HND route.
It may not be what you wanted first of all, but deffinately worth considering.

Isn't it possible to just allow him to continue without the ucas points ? I have this same fear.

Hmm, I am sure GCSE's have no ucas points, or we would all have enough

Im in Scotland, Standard Grades are our equivalent of GCSE's and as long as they are at credit level, then they carry UCAS points (28-38 ucas points per subject). The reason being is because I think they are set at a slightly higher level than GCSE's (im not trying to insult anyone!). If you look at Highers (our levels of A-levels) we do not receive as many UCAS points as england as so it evens out in the end.

Back to the subject. I am going for the FD im just worried that i wont do as well

Highers are not the Scottish equivalent to A-Levels, Advanced Highers (formerly CSYS) are, and actually receive a slightly higher UCAS points tariff than the same grades at A-Level (but A-Level offers a higher tariff for A*, a grade that doesn't exist for Advanced Higher).

The English equivalent to Highers is the AS, which receives a lower points tariff than the equivalent Higher.

                        Different systems!
