Re: Rank progression?
According to the MCA, you require a minimum of 18 months SEA time before you can apply for you Chief Officer's ticket, and then another 18 months SEA time before you can apply to do you Master's.
Also, promotion isn't going to be based on "time on board" but on your ability. If you are a very good and have a few decent reports then you're going to be promoted faster. At the end of the day, there is no way of giving you a number as it will be different for each and every person.I love deadlines. I like the whooshing sound they make as they fly by.....

Re: Rank progression?
it can be done in 10-12 years depends ona few things, like wether you stop in the same company or move to get the promotion.
Bear in ind a few points..
Comapnies will only pay for you to do your next ticket (usually) after some minimum time working for them, normally they wont let you apply for study leave until you complete the minimum time with them.
They may also hold you to a minimum time staying with them after passing your next ticket, so they dont feel dirty and used
Having the next ticket does not guarantee you the next rank, there are plenty who shoot up the ranks like it is a devine right and are clueless as they didnt actually master the previous rank cos they where to busy looking at the next one etc (personal hobby horse BTW).
Companies stagnate occasionally (global recesions and such like) so there may be periods when it is dead mens boots, other times they may build like furry and promotion is like ubber rapid as they need the bums on seats, as this is cyclic (normally) now is a good time to be starting
Luck, sometimes it is just pure luck you are in the right place at the right time to get moved, though this might mean doing an extended trip with the second part at the new higher rank, but thems the breaks and chances
Bottom to top in 10-12 years is considered fairly rapid but not un-heard ofTrust me I'm a Chief.

Yes I work for the big blue canoe company.
No I do not report things from here to them as they are quite able to come and read this stuff for themselves.

Varies from company to company and sector to sector, so very easy to earn more at a lower rank by moving around within the industryTrust me I'm a Chief.
