So I'm starting warsash college this september and I'm just really curious about how the sea phases work. The first one says 6 months, does this literally mean 6 months out at sea and never going ashore or back to college/home? And my last question is I love working out at the gym (weights) and want to know will there be a gym abroad the ship with lots of weights, I ask this because I dont think I could stand 6 months without working out properly it would drive me mad I have to lift weights every week. Thanks

Re: How does the sea phases work in college?
Ermmmm right, no.....
The 6 month will (most likely) be 1 long trip 3-4 months and a shorter trip 1-2 months, however they may just bang you away for 5 months straight.
On the ship you will go to port and may or may not get a chance of a run up the road, ususally there is at least one port on the run you cna get a jolly ashore. You wont be going anywhere near college during this phase, you'll have your distance learning / MNTB book to be working on which will keep you amused
Gym equipment will vary from company to company and even ship to ship, BUT generally there will be some sort of multi-gym and maybe a treadmill, cycling machine depends on the company and the ship and to some extent the hips management as to what state they are in and wether anyone uses them / it.
Though on a box boat there is a lot of deck to be walking around!not weights I know but helps with the keeping fit thing.
Somewhere around here there are some CMA cadets who should be able to pop up and give you proper details as these are fairly generalTrust me I'm a Chief.
Views expressed by me are mine and mine alone.
Yes I work for the big blue canoe company.
No I do not report things from here to them as they are quite able to come and read this stuff for themselves.

Thank you for replying! Okay that all sounds goodI don't care how long I spend away at sea that won't bother me, the only thing that will bother me is not being able to workout. Hopefully someone from CMA can enlighten me further about my questions asked, thanks again!
