  • Warsash Questions

I've just got a few questions about Warsash life really:

    - With it all being on a campus, can you go off campus after lectures, and go out on friday/sat nights etc? Is there some form of curfew?
    - What is a typical week like for a first phase cadet? how many hours a week of lectures, practical, simulator for the FD?
    - Whats the general life like at WMA?

    Thanks for the help everyone!

    Re: Warsash Questions

    Hi,
Firstly you can do what you want there are no curfews etc. Second after the first couple of weeks you will find that you are doing round about 9-5 every day with a lunch break and perhaps another hour free a few days a week. This will consist mainly of maths in various guises.

As for simulator there will be absolutely none at all. In regards to practical you will have chartwork from the start and short courses (firefighting etc.) at the very end.

      Re: Warsash Questions

You will only use the proper full bridge simulator once during your cadetship and that is for a week as part of the NARAS(O) short course you will do just before your Orals.

You get to play with Transas Simulator a couple of times in phase 3 but it's just an expensive version of ship simulator :-)
?Twenty years from now you will be more disappointed by the things you didn?t do than by the ones you did do. So throw off the bowlines, sail away from the safe harbor. Catch the trade winds in your sails. Explore. Dream. Discover.?

Simulator use depends on the company, a while back all cadets at South Shields did their Radar Ticket (4 weeks) plus another 1 week on a Junior Officer Bridge Watchkeeping Course.

You will get time in the simulator as a taster in your first phase-it's quite fun but a bit pointless as you don't have a clue as to what's going on!!
Warsash is a good laugh, just keep yourself to yourself, don't poo in the shower and try to stay a little bit sober. Also, make sure that Steamer's seat is ready for him in the bar for his return-you won't go wrong that way ;0)

Is pooing in the shower the latest craze nowadays? It's happened twice in my block in 6 months!
