  • Gcse Grades

    Hi there

I am really interested in becoming a Deck cadet, but my english gcse is a grade below all the companies grade levels, if i have 2 college diplomas (although they aren't really in english based courses) would it be worth me applying or would they just say no?

    Re: Gcse Grades

personally I would still apply as I have the same situation where I don't have the correct science grades for a engine cadet .they are still going ahead with my application as i have had a interview and a offer has been made to myself however I am doing a BTEC ND in engineering but the offer only stands if I get the right grades on the course I am on.
I believe that they look at each case separately.

as a wise man told me one good grades don't necessarily make good engineers. same for deck officers.

It's still worth sending applications out, like harvey said every cause is diffrent, someone in my phase had a D for both maths and science but 3 years of industrial background, which got him the job.

        Hmmmmmm, thanks for the replies.

I was just thinking my extra college stuff wouldnt really help much as it is in countryside management and amenity Horticulture , or would the general fact i have been to college kina help my case?

          Re: Gcse Grades

Well i have just registered onto the site, so im not so anonymous now.

but another thing is, if i managed to get at least an interview, would the fact i already know quite a bit about the sea (and can easily learn more from the uncle) help?

            Re: Gcse Grades

Might as well apply if you don't it's the same result as being refused. So what you got to lose?

well, im going to give applying a go soon, to SSTG. If i just put OOCL and Cma Cm as preferences am i likely to get on to either? that is if they dont just say no to me applying

Well I emailed SSTG and asked them about my grades, and they said no.

So I guess i shall say goodbye to you lot then.

                    Re: Gcse Grades

there are more companies than sstg, get your applications sent in and see what the others say.
1 rejection is not the end of the world, additionally why not think about doing "night classes" and getting the english grade sorted. Shows commitment that does
