  • MNTB Book and Evidence

Well I am a current FD Engineering Cadet at WMA, we have been given the MNTB Training Record Book, and have been told that as well as filling it out and getting it signed to say that we have completed each task we must keep a folder of evidence to show that we have done these tasks also.

However, for alot of the tasks to be completed I cannot see what evidence I am meant to show. Or it what format this must be shown either?

I have scoured the MNTB website but it makes no reference to a requirement to supply additional evidence.

    Any information is welcome. Thanks

Write some reports on the tasks you have done detailing how and why you did it.

If you have the old style portfolio then there is reports along with the tasks which have to be completed. If you have the new one (purple) then you should get given the reports separately by the college. If you want to show an impression try making a daily or weekly log,I have a daily recorded log which is 'integrated' with my TRB, should give a good leg up on the competition!

We have been issued with the new (purple) one. We have not been given the separate reports, just told that we must provide evidence for everything. Our lecturer recommended taking pictures of everything you do.

When you say I have a daily recorded log did you make it yourself, or were you provided with it?

        Thanks

It is not a competition to impress. It is about meeting the requirements.

Meeting the requirements isnt all you should do, everything should be done you think necessary to get your officer of the watch ticket. I made the log myself, ive took a good few hundred pictures of my journeys, pictures are good evidence of any maintenance you have carried out, I don't know how your college works out the reports but we were assigned 18 for phase 2, and probably the same for phase 4. Ask your college if you have any reports that need doing!

If you meet the requirements, you get the ticket. Easy. It's not a "competition" against other cadets to see who has the best portfolio. I've seen people go waaay over the top, completely wasting their time and that of the assessors, and actually at the bottom line of their work, not meeting the requirements! Back in the day, we received instructions from the assessor to keep things concise.

When it came to the orals, the examiner took no interest in my training portfolio. He was entirely satisfied by its mere existence and the certificate to say that it was complete.

Thanks for the replies, I have had a long look through the MNTB TRB and it gives advice saying that the workbook should relate to each section of the TRB but does not mention reports at all which is a bit odd.

Try asking your college, I don't know if each college does it diffently but I cant imagine them being that far apart in the training schedule maybe you will get them in phase 3 /4
