  • Level of Maths

I want to be a Deck cadet but I only took maths to GCSE level, not A-level. I got an A at GCSE level but I feel that I might be a bit rusty on some of the stuff we learnt, as well as not knowing much A-level maths. Is this a big problem or do I just need to brush up on my maths before the assessment and leave the complex stuff until college?

    Ta!

You should breeze through it with an A in GCSE maths, I also only got a C but in Phase 1 you will start from the basic math level, working out mean, medium and modes etc. then work from that.

Thanks guys, what about Engineer Officer, does that require A-level maths or will a GCSE A (or lower?) maths grade be okay too?

Engineer Officer is very hard on the maths side. I did my GCSE's ten years ago, got a d in maths first time round, and c when I resat. Its tough at college, but you get help from the tutors and there are bound to be people in class who are good. Thats how its worked out in our phase. The academic guys need help in the workshop and E.K lectures and those of us good in workshop and E.K need help in maths/ thermo/ mechanics. We all help eachother.

I passed my first year maths so pretty happy about that.

It's not so much "hard", as "intense"... you would find yourself having to be quite disciplined about going to the library many nights a week to get on top of it... and might get a bit depressed because your mates are all going out on the pith every night... so you would be doing yourself a favour by raising your level before starting training.
