i know the genrel answer is no you cant go to sea because of this.

But has it happend before is there a way round this i know CMT don't take them but i spoke to sstg they said they might but has it ever happend?? i really want to do this but this is the only thing thats holding me back

It isnt really that bad either i can tell colours its tests i cant do

there is the lantern test. i think theres an engineering lad on here who is colour blind. i think you may be restricted from certain jobs. IE anything to do with wiring
    Maybe I will never be
All the things that I want to be
But now is not the time to cry
Now's the time to find out why

        Re: eye sight

strange they only just found it, should have been picked up as a kid in school however no matter.

Colour blindness only means you cannt be a deckie and look out the windows,, electrician will be tricky BUT not impossible, however as Lekkys are about to get STCW Cetrification then it might then become more of an issue. I wouldnt worry too much unless it's proper mecially serious.

Yes I work for the big blue canoe company.
No I do not report things from here to them as they are quite able to come and read this stuff for themselves.

Re: Eye sight - Colour Blindness

it was picked up in school

i can do cable work no bother but the tests say otherwise if you get me but i am getting further tests next month, i can tell and see most colours its shades that catch me out

alot of companys just dont touch people like me they cant be bothered and im really badly wanting this career but this is stopping me

I dont see why it is stopping you, try some other companies as found on the wiki, if you can pass a ENG Medical then there is no issue, simple as that.

Re: Eye sight - Colour Blindness

i have a ENG1 but it has the lookout restricition on it and a note saying i failed the colour test.

I am going to cali uni and they will find the type and how bad it is hopfully the failed colour test turns to with further testing is found to be mild enough to carry out all other work as nothing has been said to me about a working with cable restriction as i phoned the doc and all he said was about the lookout dutys i tried CMT btu they dont take anything to do with sstg said maybe depending on the tests if you understand all that haha.

Does anyone know any colourblind engineers???? and what companys are knowen to take them????

                Hello?!

                /me waves

You have an ENG1 restricted to non-look out duties, same as me, but mine is because I cannt see past the end of my nose without me glasses The company wont care so long as you have an ENG1, now get applying

                    No,

You have an ENG1 therefore you have passed the medical, you just cant be a deckie....which is kinda handy, as you want to be a ginger beer

Unless the company is being ridiculously picky, but tbh it shouldn't make any odds. Again doing wirring jobs "might" be an issue BUT we use the IEEE standard cable colours which are supposed to be Colour-Blind proof anyway, for heavy electrics (power transmition)

I'm the engineer who is colour blind

Wasn't a problem when i told Maersk... got the look out restriction on the ENG1 and ENG3 and the "MUST DO NO WORK THAT REQUIRES SAFETY CRITICAL COLOUR DISCRIMINATION" stuff but they've been fantastic with me
