  • Renewable energy?s future role in the global shipping industry.

    Good Day All

My name is Joshua Gledhill and I am writing to ask if you would be kind enough to help me gather information for my dissertation project at the University of Brighton U.K. The aim of the study is to: Explore the opportunities for and the barriers against the development and investment in renewable energy technologies to assist or provide full locomotive power to the world’s shipping industry.

I am interested in this topic because the push towards sustainability is becoming increasingly prevalent in the conscience of modern governance. Negative environmental, social and economic impacts associated to our heavy dependence on fossil fuels are likely to increase. At the same time the current and future transport of goods by sea is an essential societal need. Numerous technologies are currently being developed to provide propulsive power to ocean going vessels with the objective to save fuel consumption, associated costs and environmental impacts.

As this questionnaire is part of a research project there are two attached documents below that offers you additional information about the study which will need to be read and signed (I have included a section in the questionnaire where you can sign your consent). The confidentiality of your input will be respected and maintained.

If you feel that for any reason you cannot complete the questionnaire I would be sincerely grateful if you could pass it on to a colleague that may like to be involved. My gratitude would stretch further if you could pass this questionnaire to numerous colleagues that you feel would be interested in this study.

When this investigation is complete I would like to offer you the results in the form of the finalised report.
