  • petition for arrested piracy patrol ships crew

I know this guy from where I grew up and he is a decent lad who needs your help. If you have a spare few minutes to read and sign petition it would be very much appreciated. His work is to protect merchant ships from piracy, a merchant ship that you or friends could be on.
    Thanks

I've come across this ship a few times and know what they do (monitored them breach the colregs in a very dramatic way resulting in a near miss with another vessel), however it is for the company to provide the correct representation to resolve this issue and determine whether they are abiding with Indian law or not. What should the Foreign Office do?

      Eeeerrrrrrr.....

If I read the article right this is an American Registered ship in International waters, escorted back into Indian territorial waters and port by the Indian Coastguard and some of the crew may be British Citizens?

If so then I am afraid her comment "It’s the British Government who are not helping these men out.” is way off the mark. British citizens arrested overseas will be given assistance by the consulate in that country but I cannot see how the British Government should be the ones taking the blame. Surely it should be the state register of the Ship that takes this up?

Finally the comment that he was just a passenger on the ship just is not true, everyone on board was "working" surely?

Or have I got hold of the wrong end of the stick here?

Urm, yes and no. The most that the consulate or embassy will do is to check to see if your human rights are being violated or not. Regardless of if they are or not, then all they can do is just whinge and moan about it a little bit and even then they charge you for it!
I love deadlines. I like the whooshing sound they make as they fly by.....
