I've scanned through quite a few of these threads and some of my questions have been answered with regards to insurance whilst at sea. so what is the score with insuring your personal belongings at sea? I get that some home insurance policies cover your stuff , but many have limits to how long they will insure it (e.g 90 days) which is not really of much use when I go away. I also know Endsleigh will cover your belongings for longer periods if you have some association with Nautilus. I guess I'm just looking for advice and any experiences you folks may have. What to do?

Your company will probably provide medical insurance from moment you leave your home to moment you return - some travel insurance companies will provide belongings coverage (ie. not medical) for the period if you phone them up and speak to them.?Twenty years from now you will be more disappointed by the things you didn?t do than by the ones you did do. So throw off the bowlines, sail away from the safe harbor. Catch the trade winds in your sails. Explore. Dream. Discover.?

Yeh your personal belongings are covered under the ships P&I Insurance incase of shipwreck or fire. But this is where it gets tricky,I believe it says something along the lines of the cover will only be provided for items that are reasonable for any crew member to have onboard. So If you have a 5k gold watch it's not going to be covered. But then what is reasonable for a crew member to have onboard !!

Thanks for the info guys, I've found some info from my company regarding this, they insure goods up to the value of ?2500, with a max limit of ?500 per individual item, excluding laptops, but the catch is its only during transit to and from the vessel, they don't cover the goods whilst on board for theft. Cover is if the vessel has some uncontrollable accident. cheers anyway.
