It's worth saying that the Egyptian Government and Armed Forces are very cluded up on how important the Suez Canal is both to global trade and the Egyptian economy. Much of the canal is patrolled by the armed forces (who are pretty professional by Arab standards) and at the moment they are on high alert due to the threat posed by the Muslim Brotherhood, so I'd be suprised if anything major happened.
