  • IMO Day of the Seafarer

It's one week until the IMO's Day of the Seafarer on Tuesday 25th June.

The IMO have made up a presentation on how you can get involved - click here.

Essentially, the theme is "Faces of the Sea", and they're looking for pictures of products imported by sea and pictures of seafarers to be shared on social media, with the hashtag #thankyouseafarer.

Since we're seafarers and it's probably a bit much to go around thanking ourselves, I recommend engaging with the IMO as much as possible on Facebook and Twitter and maybe changing your Facebook cover image or profile picture to the promotional one. Or just mention it next Tuesday. It's an excellent way of raising the profile of the industry.

Here's the logo and supporter badge (profile picture size) and a banner which is perfect as a Facebook cover image:

Are we supposed to use the pictures on the 25th or is using them beforehand fine? I noticed that the presentation said blog posts should be published on the 25th

They're looking for any sort of participation so using the pictures is up to you. Blog posts telling people about how they can get involved are also fine at any time. The idea is that on the 25th everyone posts a picture of seafarers or a product imported by sea either on social medica or on their blog, with the theme of "Thank You Seafarer".

It may seem a bit cheesy but it does work.

We had a party on board. Not sure how it raises awareness outside of the industry but it was a good excuse for a p*ss up. We toasted ourselves and all our fellow seafarers with some Pussers rum, and the company put free beer on for the night
