  • Two very different new ships!

So I'm sure you've all seen the coverage of the naming of Princess Cruises' Royal Princess (if not click here)

And tomorrow will see the naming of Maersk's first Triple-E class container ship, Maersk McKinney Moller (More Info)

Royal Princess will be followed next year by a new build of the same class for P&O Cruises, and Maersk have plans for 19 more Triple-Es.

Which one would you rather be on?

I'm not sure I would want to be on the Triple-E classed vessel in an emergency...

          Mayday mayday mayday,
This is Maersk McKinney Moller, Maersk McKinney Moller, Maersk McKinney Moller, I spell, Mike, alpha, echo ... (officer would still be transmitting under water)

          Why not go on both?

When I was with the pointy star company people used to just call me on the VHF radio and say "big blue tanker on my port bow" and I would sometimes answer "This is the big blue tanker on your port bow". I would be quite relaxed as he was far enough away not to be able to read the name on the bow. If he could read the name we were both in the brown smelly stuff!
